Barefoot Marathon Number 55 at 55 Years of Age
Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. - Isaiah 40:31
Temperature at start - 37 deg F
Worth mentioning is how brutally cold it was at the start. It had rained all day on Friday and Friday night. It was still misting when I headed for Olathe, Kansas where the Oz Marathon (formerly the Olathe Marathon) was taking place. The winds were howling out of the northeast at 25 to 30 mph sustained. The first 8 miles were in wide-open areas so we battled with the winds until we finally went into a residential area where we experienced a lot of wind breaks. The rest of the marathon was decently warm as it began "heating up" into the lower 40s F. The second half of the marathon is on scenic Indian Creek Trail System which provided a lot of protection from the wind.
I had expectations of finishing around 5
hours since my left leg has been hurting off and on. (Seems it hasn't been
the same since the 60 mile barefoot run in October.) So, I was very happy
with my finishing time of 4:12.
*I am a marathon runner and do not prescribe to a run/walk method for MY marathons. Likewise, I do not judge anyone else for "finishing" a marathon in whatever way they can propel themselves across the finish line, whether it be walking, crawling, etc. All marathon finishes are notable in their own regard.
