Another successful Polar Barefoot Run is in the books. This year proved to be mild, to the most part, as temps hovered in the low 40s F. However, the north wind made it brisk and chilly as we stood around and talked before the run. After some short instruction about the run and barefoot running in general, we started our barefoot jaunt at approximately noon. Most ran a complete mile barefoot, while others ran more. Notably, there were a few "newbies" who had never tried barefoot running up until today. From the smiles, I think this might not be the last time they run sans shoes!
We ended up raising $118 for the rescue mission along with a few articles of clothing.
Thank you to Pete Grathoff and the Kansas City Star for giving us a mention on Christmas day about the run. The local television media didn't show up at this year's event. (I should say not until 12:45 p.m. when one of the TV stations showed up. By then, all but two of us had left!)
Thank you to KMBZ Radio for their interview which will air on Monday morning January 2, 2012.
All in all, it was a great day and a great way to start off the new year!
